The golden hues of light slowly spill over the majestic peaks like Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Dhaulagiri, Machhapuchhre, Hiunchuli, Nilgiri and Tukuche Peak. More than the sunrise view, it will feel like a Himalayan ceremony. After soaking in the unforgettable Himalayan panorama or maybe sipping hot tea from the hilltop stop while you are at it, you then descend back to Ghorepani.
After enjoying your breakfast, you will leave Ghorepani and ascend through the thick rhododendron forest. During the last leg of the trek, you will cross a small bridge over a gurgling stream and after a short push, you arrive at Tadapani. This is a scenic ridge-top village that is nestled deep within the forest. The views of Machhapuchhre, Hiunchuli and Annapurna South are simply breathtaking from here.
This beautiful high-altitude settlement feels peaceful and remote. As there are fewer trekkers than in Ghorepani and the village is surrounded by lush forest, Tadapani gives a truly secluded vibe.

Drinking Water
Staying hydrated is an absolute necessity for high-altitude treks where the mountain air is dry and the trekking days are longer. This can easily lead to dehydration and can also trigger the symptoms of AMS. During the trek, you need to drink at least 3 to 4 liters of water per day. Increase the intake as you ascend higher to prevent altitude-related dehydration. Remember, it's best to sip regularly rather than chugging large amounts at once.
Along the trekking trail, you can find tap water at clear stations and boiled or bottled water at the teahouses. Although locals drink the water from clean stations, you should treat it with a solution or filtration system before consuming it. Bottled water is sold throughout the route, but is discouraged due to its high cost and environmental impact. So, buying bottled water at the teahouses is a safe and environmentally friendly option to meet the daily hydration quota.
Training and Preparation Tips
Annapurna Base Camp Trek via Poon Hill is not a technical climb. But it certainly demands good physical conditioning, mental readiness and thoughtful preparation. This trekking trail involves steep stone staircases, long daily walks (5 to 6 hours on average) and altitude gain, even if it doesn’t cross 5,000 meters. Ideally, you should start your training 6 to 8 weeks before the trek. If you are new to hiking or physical activity, you should give yourself 10 to 12 weeks.
Even if you are moderately fit, some level of pre-trek training will significantly improve your endurance level, comfort and overall experience on the trail. Your key focus for the preparation should be on cardiovascular endurance, leg strength, core stability and hiking-specific conditioning. It's best if you are able to comfortably walk 10 to 15 km for multiple days while carrying your backpack.
Mental Preparation for Trek
While physical fitness is an absolute necessity for a high-altitude Himalayan journey, your mental strength often becomes your greatest asset. The multi-day treks like Annapurna Base Camp via Poon Hill will test your endurance, patience and motivation, especially on long climbing sections, during struggles with fatigue, or when the weather conditions are not ideal. So, the mental preparation is not all about that toughness. It is about having the right mindset, coming in terms with your limits, being adaptable and staying positive even in hard times.
Key Tips for Mental Preparation
●Set realistic expectations
●Learn to embrace the discomfort
●Pace yourself mentally
●Train your mind during the physical preparation
●Develop a personal motivation to help you keep going
●Practise mindfulness and breathing techniques
●Stay flexible and open-minded
●Visualize the journey in advance, along with the challenges that you might face
