    • Add awe-inspiring sunrise or sunset to the itinerary and make it extra special.

Once a strategic fort of Kathmandu Valley to oversee activities of another kingdom, Nagarkot is now one of the best go-to hill stations to see the majestic Himalayas. Leave Kathmandu’s boisterous life behind and climb this historical and panoramic spot by choosing Nagarkot Hiking.

1 Day Nagarkot Hiking is a perfect option for those who love hiking and are in Kathmandu. This short hike feeds you the heritage of Changu Narayan Temple, Newar's culture, and Nagarkot's nature. Anyone can do this hike as it is easy and non-technical.

This exciting walk will start with a drive to Bhaktapur, an ancient town of Newar, and the hike's starting point. Leaving all the places, you’ll drive directly to one of the oldest Hindu temples in Nepal, Changu Narayan Temple. It is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and has special importance among Hindu followers.

After exploring and embracing the reverberation of the temple, you’ll join the Nagarkot Hiking trail. It goes via houses and terraced fields of villagers of the area. You’ll continue on the route and experience the local lifestyle of Newars, Brahmins, Tamangs, and other tribes.

You will pass through lush pine and rhododendron vegetation as the walk continues. You’ll also go to several shrines of Hindu deities along the trail. Eventually, after walking uphill for several hours, you will reach Nagarkot(2,175m), the ultimate point.

As a reward for the walk, you will receive a breathtaking panorama of the great Himalayas. One can enjoy stunning views of ranges like Annapurna, Langtang, Numbur, Jugal, Mahalangur, Ganesh Himal, and many more. Alongside mountains, visitors can view the Kathmandu Valley, adjacent hills, and landscapes.

After the full view, you will drive back to Kathmandu to your hotel and complete the trip. Or you can stay overnight in Nagarkot for sunrise and sunset views like many hikers. The sunset and sunrise are entirely awe-inspiring.

Overall, Nagarkot Hiking is a fabulous hike to escape the valley for fresh breezes and an enchanting panorama. You can do this walk in one day. Walkers of all age groups can perform it. Though this walk is doable all year, the finest times are Autumn and Spring.

Nagarkot Hiking is the best option if you are looking for a short and scenic hike. Write to us if you want to do it.

One Day Nagarkot Day Hiking Itineraray

You’ll leave your hotel after a flavorful breakfast for Bhaktapur, the classical city of Newars. You’ll head straight to Changu Narayan Temple, the first major highlight of the day.

Placed at the top of a hill, Changu Narayan Temple is a great example of Nepal’s rich history and architecture. You’ll explore and immerse in the magical aura of the temple area.

After that, you will begin the stroll via the village of Newar and walk by exploring the lifestyle. By walking ahead, you’ll explore more of those villages. Tamangs, one of the major tribes, also live in the region. You’ll pass through villages of them around Telkot village.

Beyond Telkot, the beautiful uphill walk through lush pine and rhododendron forest starts. You will do the steep walk. One shrine of Lord Shiva will come along, where you’ll take blessings and catch your breath. You’ll begin again to trek uphill, which goes via terraced farm villages.

In some hours of uphill walking, you will reach Nagarkot, the most famous hill stop. You’ll find a great amount of vegetation here. You'll also get an incredible mountain panorama if you reach a high point like a view tower.

On a clear and sunny day, you would see Mt Everest, Mt Ganesh Himal, Mt Langtang, Mt Jugal, Mt Number, Mt Ganesh Himal, Mt Gaurishankar Himal, Mt Dorje Lakpa, and more. It is one of the best panoramic places in Nepal. Being in Nagarkot, you can view the peaks of different beautiful places in Nepal.

    Essential Information

    Best time

Nagarkot is doable all year round. You can do it anytime because it is not a high-altitude walk or a long trip. It is up to you when you want to do it.

Autumn(September- November) and Spring(March-May) are best if you love clear views and stable weather. The conditions during these two times are inviting and enticing. With clear views of peaks, you will have cozy and stable weather. The sun will shine every day, and the skies will be open.

Monsoon(June - August) always needs clear views due to the rainy season. The peaks can be in the veil of clouds. The trail may also be a bit slippery if it is wet. And there might be sponges, too. Despite these reasons, Nagarkot Hiking in monsoon is doable without any problems.

Similarly, in Winter(December- February), the weather is a bit cold. The mountains may not be visible during the snowfall in the mountains. Besides these two things, the weather is not bad for short hiking. If you do, you can get fresh, snowy mountain views.

Overall, Nagarkot Hiking is a plan possible all year round. Book your ticket to Nepal, be free for one day, and do Nagarkot Hiking.
