Trip Overview

The Makalu Base Camp Trek is one of the rare Himalayan journeys that feels untouched. This is the kind of trail where the mountains whisper in the serene atmosphere. Makalu region is remote, rugged and far less commercial than the Everest and Annapurna routes. It is also one of the reasons why so many trekkers fall in love with it. The moment you leave Tumlingtar and start traversing into the Barun Valley, you will understand that this is not a trek built around the teahouse crowd or pre-packaged mountain viewpoints.

Everything on the Mount Makalu Base Camp Trek route feels raw, the terrain, the villages and even the weather patterns. Unlike other popular treks, this journey is slightly more demanding. There are no shortcuts, no connecting roads and no steady flow of trekkers to blend into. Your every step here earns its rewards, which is why the journey feels so personal. Reaching the Makalu Base Camp is not just about standing between the towering fifth-highest mountain in the world, Mt. Makalu (8,485m/ 27,838ft).

Your journey is also about navigating through the landscapes that have stayed the same for generations. The quiet mountain villages greet you without pretence. And, the feeling of being completely small in a place where nature is still in full control is transforming. For the trekkers who enjoy solitude, raw adventure and the satisfaction of walking into remote stretches that few people ever see, Mount Makalu Base Camp Trek 15 Days is the crown jewel.

Makalu Himal

Makalu the fifth tallest among the mountains on this earth, rises to 8,485 meters Located in the Mahalangur Himal sub-range of the Himalayas along the international border between Nepal and Tibet, a unique pyramid shape gives the peak its challenges; along with severely adverse climbing conditions, this is precisely why it is so sought-after by serious mountaineers. Itinerary of Makalu Base Camp Trek - 15 days

Day 01

Flight from Kathmandu (1,400m/ 4,593ft) to Tumlingtar (477m/ 1,564ft)

Your Mount Makalu Base Camp Trek starts with a short and scenic flight from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar. As you land, the warm lowland breeze and the quiet surroundings instantly feel different from Kathmandu. Then, you will stretch your leg for a bit after landing and prepare for your overland journey. Leaving Tumlingtar, the drive takes you gradually across the beautiful hillside villages like Khandbari, Manebhanjyang and Chichila.

Each village along the driving route showcases a different slice of eastern Nepal. As the vehicle moves higher, the landscape turns greener and the air starts to get cooler. The final driving stretch to Num village feels dramatic as the road cuts along a narrow ridge with deep valleys on both sides. This traditional village itself sits on a sharp ridge that offers wide views of the Arun Valley. Num Village is a small and quiet settlement that feels perfectly placed for the adventure ahead.

  1. Max. Elevation:477
  2. Duration:45min
  3. Distance:482km
Day 02

Trekking to Seduwa (1,493m/ 4,898ft) via Arun River: 6 to 7 hours

  • Seduwa Elevation: 1,493m
  • Overnight: Teahouse

You will officially begin the trekking part of your Makalu Base Camp Trek 15 Days from this day onward. After a warm breakfast, you will follow the trail that steeply drops from Num Village toward the Arun River. This descent passes across a few scattered homes on the hillside before entering the lush forest. As you climb to the lower altitudes, you will pass the tiny cluster of houses rather than full villages.

After crossing the suspension bridge over the Arun River, the real climbing section of the Mount Makalu Base Camp Trek begins. The ascending path toward Seduwa is steady and demanding. It winds past the farm lands, scattered houses and a bit of terraced lands that are cut into the slope. This stretch of the trail feels alive with local activity and the quiet rhythm of rural life. By the time you reach Seduwa, the valley opens into a broad hillside village, which marks your entry into the Makalu Barun National Park.

  1. Max. Elevation:1493
  2. Duration:6-7hrs
  3. Distance:12km
Day 03

Seduwa to Tashigaon (2,100m/ 6,889ft): 4 to 5 hours

  • Tashigaon Elevation: 2100m
  • Overnight: Teahouse

After leaving Seduwa, your trekking trail begins with a gentle climb through terraced fields and small clusters of houses on the hillside. The route continues through settlements like Murmidanda, stone pathways paved the way between simple homes and open fields. The scenery gradually changes as the terraces disappear and the forest begins to dominate.

The final push toward Tashigaon is a bit steeper, but the village stands still and beautifully built across a sloping ridge with traditional houses. From here, you will also be able to enjoy the wide views over the valley. This is the last major settlement on the route, and you can feel the remoteness settling in. The village is surrounded by yak pastures and forested hills, which will give you a clear sense that the trail ahead will take you deeper into the high mountains.

  1. Max. Elevation:2100
  2. Duration:4-5 hrs
  3. Distance:10km
Day 04

Trek to Khongma Danda (3,500m/ 11,482ft): 7 to 8 hours

  • Khongma Danda Elevation: 3500m
  • Overnight: Teahouse

Today's trek in your Makalu Base Camp Trek 15 Days is one of the hardest but most beautiful. From Tashigaon, the trail climbs immediately and weaves across dense forests of rhododendron, oak, and bamboo. As you climb higher, you will pass through a few seasonal herding shelters. But there are no established villages along the trekking stretch; this section is all wilderness.

The climb is long and steady, you will walk across several stone staircases and ridges where the trees briefly open to reveal views back toward Tashigaon. As you move higher up, the forest starts to thin out and the landscape shifts into alpine terrain. After crossing the first of the day’s ridges, the trail enters the Khongma climb. This is a series of steep ascents that eventually lead to Khongma Danda. This high-altitude small settlement is built around a handful of teahouses and lodges perched on a high ridge.

Khongma Village feels wild and exposed, with panoramic views stretching across the valley. This is your launching point for the Shipton La crossing. Spending the night here gives you your first real sense of being deep in Makalu’s high mountain world.

  1. Max. Elevation:3500
  2. Duration:7-8hrs
  3. Distance:10km
Day 05

Khongma Danda to Dobate (3,068m/ 10,065ft) trekking via Shipton La Pass (4,210m/ 13,812ft): 6 to 7 hours

  • Dobate Elevation: 3,068m
  • Overnight: Teahouse

This morning of your Makalu Base Camp Trek itinerary starts with a steady climb straight out of Khongma Danda. You will enter a high and open ridge where the forest thins and the panorama of the valleys and mountains widens. This section feels different from everything before as it feels raw, alpine, and exposed to the wind. The trail then gradually leads toward Ghungru La, the first pass of the day.

From here, the route dips slightly before climbing again through rocky terrain to reach Shipton La Pass, the highest point of this day’s trail. This pass feels wild and silent; it is surrounded by jagged ridgelines and scattered stone cairns. A small sacred pond near the top reflects the sky on a clear day, which will add a calm moment before the descent.

During the descending stretch, the trail drops through a mix of rocky steps and forest patches toward Dobate. This is a small village with a cluster of teahouses. The shift from high and barren ridges to moss-covered forests makes this section stunningly beautiful. Dobate feels remote and quiet, which is a perfect and comforting stop after a demanding day over the passes.

  1. Max. Elevation:3068
  2. Duration:6-7hrs
  3. Distance:12km
Day 06

Trek to Yangle Kharka (3,530m/ 11,581ft): 6 to 7 hours

  • Yangle Kharka Elevation: 3,530m
  • Overnight: Teahouse

After enjoying a warm breakfast, you will leave Dobate following the trail that drops through dense forest where oak, fir, and rhododendron grow. This descending stretch is steep in places, especially as you approach the river gorge. You will then traverse across the wooden bridges and narrow cliff-side paths, where you can hear the constant echoes of the Barun River.

As the valley widens up, the landscape starts to slowly shift. The forests give way to open meadows, grazing areas, and long stretches of flat and peaceful trail. You will encounter seasonal herding shelters here, but there are no major villages along this stretch. On this day, you will truly feel the quiet rhythm of the Barun Valley.

By the time you reach Yangle Kharka, the scenery opens dramatically. The valley becomes broad and grassy. You will be surrounded by towering rock walls and waterfalls drop from great heights. Yangle Kharka sits in a wide pastureland, and there are a few teahouses spread across the meadow. This rest stop on today’s Makalu Base Camp Trek route feels calm, spacious, and beautifully remote.

  1. Max. Elevation:3530
  2. Duration:6-7hrs
  3. Distance:10km
Day 07

Yangle Kharka to Langmale (3,840m/ 12,598ft): 5 to 6 hours

  • Langmale : 3,840m
  • Overnight: Teahouse

Leaving Yangle Kharka, you will follow the trail that moves along the Barun River upstream. You will walk across wide meadows and rocky patches where the valley floor rises gently. This is one of the most relaxing days of the Mount Makalu Base Camp Trek. Although you will gain altitude, it will be steady and manageable with long views into the heart of the valley.

Along the way, you will also pass seasonal grazing points and open grasslands. You will see yaks wandering freely in this stretch. As you climb higher, the mountains begin to dominate the skyline. The steep cliffs rise sharply on both sides and you will catch the distant views of glaciers peeking between the ridges.

As you approach Langmale Kharka, the terrain starts to change again. The valley becomes broader, vegetation becomes sparse, and the air feels colder. Langmale is a high-altitude grazing settlement with several lodges built across a flat terrain. This high-altitude stop is surrounded by towering peaks. Yange Kharka is a peaceful stop before the final push to MBC.

  1. Max. Elevation:3840
  2. Duration:5-6hrs
  3. Distance:10.5km
Day 08

Trek to Makalu Base Camp (4,870m/ 15,977ft): 5 to 6 hours

  • Makalu Base Camp Elevation: 4870m
  • Overnight: Tent

This is the final push toward the Makalu Base Camp. From Yangle Kharka, the trail climbs gradually and moves along the river deeper into the upper Barun Valley. The air grows thinner and colder, but the scenery becomes extraordinary. You will be able to relish the stunning views of glacial walls, sharp ridgelines, and the massive presence of Mount Makalu. In the further stretch, you will pass through Shershong. This is a high and open plain that is used mostly by herders during warmer months. It offers a wide view of the valley and marks the final approach toward the base camp.

From Shershong, the trail climbs across rocky terrain and glacial moraine, with Makalu’s giant south face now dominating the horizon. The final leg of this day’s trek feels surreal; quiet, open, and surrounded by towering peaks on all sides.

After reaching Makalu Base Camp, take your time to truly absorb the moment. The landscape here at the foothills of the world’s fifth-highest mountain is raw and dramatic. You will be surrounded by glaciers, boulder fields, and the massive pyramid of Makalu rising directly above. At the Makalu Base Camp, the wind is crisp, the silence deep, and the sense of remoteness here is unmatched by most treks in Nepal.

  1. Max. Elevation:4870
  2. Duration:5-6hrs
  3. Distance:8.7km
Day 09

Exploration and hikes around Makalu Base Camp (4,870m/ 15,977ft)

  • Explore Makalu Base Camp

As you have reached the epicenter of the Makalu Base Camp Trek 15 Days, you will take this day to truly relish the raw Himalayan beauty. You will take a full day for exploration at the Makalasu Bas Camp and the surrounding area to soak in the vastness of this high-altitude world. The sunrise view that hits the south face of Makalu, which makes the entire slope glow, will be the most magical moment of this trek.

In the morning, you can also explore several other small trails that spread into the surrounding moraine, each offering something different. One of the most rewarding options is the gradual ascent toward the glacier viewpoint above base camp. From here, you can catch the close-up views of glaciers, crevasses and the hanging ice cliffs, which feel unbelievably close to you, almost like at arm’s length.

You can also take another route that leads toward the rocky ridge on the eastern side. From this viewpoint, you will be able to enjoy the panoramic views of the Upper Barun Valley and the surrounding giants like Peak 6 and Peak 7. You will not rush with your exploration today; you walk slowly, let your body adapt, and let the landscape sink in. By afternoon, you will return to camp and then rest and paper for the descending part of the journey that begins tomorrow.

  1. Max. Elevation:4870
Day 10

Trek to Yangle Kharka (3,530m/ 11,581ft) from base camp: 6 to 7 hours

  • Yangle Kharka Elevation: 3,530m
  • Overnight: Teahouse

After completing your exploration at the Makalu Base Camp, it is time for you to now move along with the return leg. Leaving the base with a heart full of memories, admiration and gratitude, you will retrace your way back across the rocky moraine. As you follow the downhill route, the Makaslu starts to gradually disappear. Your return trek will take you back to Shersong again. Its broad and windswept plains now feel more familiar than the first time you crossed them.

You will continue descending the valley floor, following the river down through open landscapes. With every footstep to lower altitudes, the scenery starts to soften from cold glacial terrain into grassy meadows. As you climb lower, the oxygen also returns to the air, and the walk becomes more relaxed.

By the time you reach Yangle Kharka, the environment feels gentle compared to the base camp zone in the alpine zone. The wide meadow, grazing yaks, and soft river sound create a peaceful atmosphere. This resting stop will feel perfect after a long descent.

  1. Max. Elevation:3530
  2. Duration:6-7hrs
  3. Distance:16km
Day 11

Yangle Kharka to Dobate (3,068m/ 10,065ft): 5 to 6 hours

  • Dobate Elevation: 3,068m
  • Overnight: Teahouse

On this day of the Makalu Base Camp Trek Itinerary, as well, you will continue your descent down the valley. The walking path weaves through open grasslands and you will enter the dense forest zone again. The first section of the trail feels calm and rhythmic as you traverse across meadows, river crossings and small streams. As you approach the lower segments, the walking path starts to get steeper, especially near the gorge connected by wooden bridges and narrow pathways.

The climb back toward Dobate feels different compared to the ascent earlier in the trek. You are stronger now, more acclimatized, and the surroundings are more familiar. The deep green forests, mossy stones, and cool and fresh air make this section surprisingly beautiful. Dobate village is tucked into a quiet clearing, surrounded by trees. After spending days in the high alpine terrain, the return to this sheltered forest feels comforting.

  1. Max. Elevation:3068
  2. Duration:5-6hrs
  3. Distance:10km
Day 12

Trekking to Tashigaon (2,100m/ 6,889ft): 6 to 7 hours

  • Tashigaon Elevation: 2100m
  • Overnight: Teahouse

After breakfast at Dobate Village, you will begin your climb toward the ridgelines above the village. Today, you will retrace your steps on the part of the route that took you toward the passes. The ascent is steady and you will pass through thick rhododendron forests. From a higher clearing, brief openings in the trees will give you stunning views of the Barun Valley behind you.

Once you reach the ridge sections, the trail starts to gradually descend. And, you will eventually leave the alpine atmosphere behind. As you continue walking downward, the forest thickens, the air gets warmer, and the familiar terraced landscapes begin to reappear. This gradual transition from remoteness to human settlements feels refreshing.

Finally, you arrive at Tashigaon, its hillside homes, stone steps, and scattered fields welcoming you back to the last permanent village on the route. After several days of isolation in the high mountains, arriving here feels grounding and warm. From this stop point, the sounds of village life return to your journey.

  1. Max. Elevation:2100
  2. Duration:6-7hrs
  3. Distance:15km

This day’s trek begins with a gentle descent through the forested slopes below Tashigaon. The trail stretches past a few scattered homes and terraced patches. As you continue downward, the forest thickens with bamboo, oak, and rhododendron, and the village sounds slowly fade into the background. The trail will eventually lead you back toward the Arun Valley.

Then, the long descent takes you through familiar sections near Murmidanda and other hillside settlements you passed earlier. The terrain grows warmer and greener with every step. The valley also opens wider as you approach the lower elevations. From the valley floor, the trail rises again toward Num. This final push reminds you how steep this region truly is.

Num Village sits on a narrow ridge, and it feels as dramatic as when you first arrived, with deep drops on both sides and wide views stretching far back toward the mountains. Essential Information

How Difficult is Makalu Base Camp Trek?

The Makalu Base Camp Trek is one of the demanding journeys in the Himalayas. The overall Makalu Base Camp Trek difficulty is considered a high-grade and demanding adventure. This route is considered more challenging not because of a single brutal section, but because the difficulty builds gradually and consistently. You will start your trekking adventure in warm and low-altitude villages.

During this part, the trails drop sharply into deep valleys and climb out just as steeply. Many trekkers who traverse who have traversed the high-Himalayan trekking routes may remember it as one of the toughest early challenges. Once you enter the higher reaches beyond Tashigaon, the terrain becomes more rugged. The long ascent to Khongma Danda is a serious workout. Likewise, crossing the Shipton La Pass, which is over 4,200 meters, requires both stamina and patience. The trails in these high-elevation stretches are steep, rocky, and often exposed to changing weather.

The altitude adds another layer of difficulty. Days above 3,500 meters come with slower movement, thinner air, and the need for a steady pace to avoid any complications related to altitude. The final push from Langmale to Makalu Base Camp is not technically challenging, but the elevation makes every step feel demanding.  What makes this Makalu Base Camp Trek 15 Days truly demanding is the remoteness. Unlike regions like Everest or Annapurna, there are no dense teahouses along the trekking route nor easy evacuation points.

You will have to heavily rely on your preparation and your physical endurance. Overall, as the Makalu Base Camp Trek difficulty is at a demanding level, it is a journey that is best-suited for experienced hikers or fit trekkers. If you are partaking in this journey, you will need to embrace long climbs, high passes, and rugged trails. The challenge is real, but the reward is equally powerful. Mount Makalu Base Camp Trek is a journey through one of the wildest and most untouched valleys in the entire Himalayas, an adventure that you will always remember.

Makalu Base Camp

Best Time to Do Mount Makalu Base Camp Trek

The best time to do Makalu Base Camp Trek is during the two main trekking seasons in Nepal: spring (March to May) and autumn (late September to November). During these months, you will be accompanied by the most stable weather, clearer skies, and comfortable temperatures for long days on the trail. The spring season brings warmer days, blooming rhododendron forests, and gradually improving visibility as the season progresses.

The climb toward Khongma Danda also feels pleasant during this comfortable season, and the high passes are generally clear of heavy snow. The Upper Barun Valley also looks stunning at this time. The fresh greenery takes over the landscape in the lower sections and crisp blue skies are breathtaking at higher altitudes. Autumn, on the other hand, is known for its crystal-clear mountain views and crisp mountain air.

After the monsoon, the air in the autumn season feels clean and sharp, making Makalu’s massive south face look crystal clear from base camp. Daytime temperatures are comfortable, and the trails are usually dry. This will be really helpful when traversing the steep ascending and descending stretches of the trail. The autumn season is ideal for trekkers who prioritize stable conditions and want to enjoy the best mountain visibility.

As for the off-season, like winter (December to February) and monsoon (June to early-September), they are not recommended. Monsoon brings slippery trails, landslides, and cloud-covered views, especially in the lower valleys. As for the winter, it can be harsh at higher altitudes. The Shipton La is covered by heavy snow and nights are extremely cold in the upper valley, making travel risky.

Accommodation and Food During Trek

Accommodation on the Makalu Base Camp Trek route is simple and basic. They reflect on the remote and untouched aspects of this Himalayan region. You will not find the comfort or variation like the mainstream trekking routes of the Everest or Annapurna regions. Instead, the teahouses are small, family-run, and have a cozy atmosphere. The rooms in these traditional teahouses usually have thin walls, wooden beds, and blankets. As the nights can be colder at high altitudes, you are still recommended to bring a sleeping bag with you.

As for the higher parts of the trail, there are fewer lodges. They are more rustic, and often feel like extensions of a family home rather than commercial guesthouses. At Makalu Base Camp itself, accommodation is basic, especially in comparison to other famous base camps. So, in overall, during the Makalu Base Camp Short Trek you can expect simple rooms, minimal amenities, and an atmosphere shaped by peaceful serenity.

Makalu Base Camp Trek

As for the food available at the teahouses, it follows a similar pattern to the accommodation option. The choices are limited, maybe not as diverse as the Annapurna and Everest regions. But the meals are warm, homemade, and filling. Dal bhat is the staple dish that is available at every teahouse. It is served with local vegetables, lentil soup, rice, and other side dishes. Besides that, you will be able to enjoy dishes such as:

  • For Breakfast: Tibetan Bread, Chapati, Pancake, Porridge, Omelet, Boiled Eggs, Scrambled Eggs, Roti, etc
  • For Lunch and Dinner: Fried Rice, Noodles, Potato Dishes, Pasta (limited), Soup, Momo, Chowmein, etc
  • Beverages: Black Tea, Milk Tea, Hot Lemon, Instant Coffee, Cold Drinks, Local Alcohol, Hot Water, etc

**Note: Although there is nothing fancy, everything is cooked fresh, often over a wood or gas stove. Because of Makalu’s remoteness, ingredients are expensive and hard to transport. So, it is normal for food to be slightly pricier than you might expect**

Drinking Water

Access to drinking water on the Makalu Base Camp Trek is straightforward. But you will need to be extra careful compared to the busier trekking regions of Nepal. This iconic Himalayan trail passes through dense forests, river valleys, and high-altitude meadows. So, the natural water sources are pretty common, but they are not safe to drink directly. Although the streams may look clean, they can carry bacteria or be runoff from grazing areas. So proper purification is essential, no matter the source.

Most teahouses along the route offer boiled water for a small fee. This is the safest option, especially at higher elevations where temperatures drop and contamination risks increase. In the lower villages like Seduwa and Tashigaon, boiled water is widely available. However, once you enter the more remote sections around Dobate and Yangle Kharka, it is best to plan ahead because facilities here are more basic and fuel is limited.

Thus, carrying your own purification method is important. Lightweight solutions like purification tablets or a filter bottle will make it easier to refill from natural sources when needed. Since the trail is long and the days can be demanding, keeping yourself hydrated plays a big role in how well you handle altitude and fatigue. The minimum recommended hydration limit on such a high-altitude route is around 3 to 4 liters per day.

Training and Preparation

To overcome the challenging factors of the Makalu Base Camp Trek difficulty, preparation is non-negotiable. This Himalayan adventure demands steady preparation because the trail is long, remote, and filled with steep ascents and descents. You definitely don’t need to train like an athlete for this trek. But you do need to build a comfortable level of fitness so your body can handle multiple days of trekking in the remote and high-altitude Himalayan trail.

You can start with the basics for the training. You can hike on hilly or uneven terrain carrying a backpack, which is one of the best ways to prepare. If you can manage long walks of 2 to 3 hours a few times a week, and gradually push toward 5 to 6 hours on weekends, you will be able to build the endurance needed for the trek. Besides that, if you select a high-altitude destination, it will also be a good acclimatization practice.

In addition to that, you also need to emphasize the leg strength. Simple exercises like step-ups, lunges, and squats will improve your stability on steep trails. You will not need a gym; just bodyweight training at home is enough as long as you stay consistent. Likewise, cardio matters too for the preparation. You don’t need to set a routine for intense workouts; just steady activity will suffice. Cycling, jogging at a comfortable pace, or hiking in local hills will help you build stamina without stressing your body

Finally, mental preparation is just as important as physical preparation. The Makalu Base Camp Trek 15 Days will take you through remote valleys with fewer comforts. So a good attitude, patience, and steady pacing will make a huge difference. You need to listen to your body, walk slowly at altitude, and acclimatize properly for the tough sections. With basic training, proper planning, and the right mindset, the Makalu Base Camp route becomes absolutely achievable.

Necessary Permits

The Makalu Base Camp Trek route takes you across one of the most remote and strictly regulated trekking zones in Nepal. Although the entire trail is not classified as a fully restricted area like Manaslu and Upper Mustang, it does lie close to the sensitive border region with Tibet. And the route also passes through an ecologically fragile environment inside the Makalu Barun National Park.

That’s why you musta obtain several official permits before entering the national park and rural territories that lead to Upper Barun Valley.

Permits Necessary for Makalu Base Camp Trek

  • Makalu-Barun National Park Entry Permit
  • Makalu Rural Municipality Permit
  • Makalu Restricted Area Permit (depending on the route)

Both the national park and the municipality permits are the core permits for the Mount Makalu Base Camp Trek. These permits help to regulate tourism, manage entry records and support the local communities. As for the Restricted Area Permit (RAP), if your trekking route passes through sensitive settlements like Chepuwa, Hatiya, Kimathnagka, or Pawakhola, you will need to obtain this permit, you will need to obtain is as well.

Trekkers following the standard Makalu Base Camp Trek 15 Days trek route do not need this permit. But anyone who is diverting to the restricted border belt must secure this permit in advance.

Is This Trek Suitable for Beginners?

The Makalu Base Camp Trek is generally not recommended for complete beginners. It is mainly because of its remoteness and the demanding nature of the trek. Unlike the popular regions such as Everest or Annapurna, this route has fewer teahouses, limited infrastructure, and long stretches without proper settlements. If something goes wrong, whether it is fatigue, weather issues, or altitude symptoms, there are very few easy exit points.

Likewise, the trail itself is also quite challenging. You will face steep climbs and descents right from the beginning. Crossing Shipton La Pass also requires stamina. The upper valley, though not technical, sits at high altitude. So, at this altitude, pacing and experience matter.  That said, it can be suitable for someone who is not extremely experienced but has:

  • Strong basic fitness
  • Good preparation and training
  • Previous experience with multi-day trekking (even moderate ones)
  • The ability to stay calm and steady in remote environments

In overall, a complete newcomer with no trekking experience might find the trail overwhelming. But someone who has done a few treks before, understands how their body reacts to long days of trekking, and doesn’t mind preparing properly, can absolutely succeed on this route. Thus, it is not a beginner-friendly trek in the traditional sense. But a determined, well-prepared first-time high-altitude trekker could take it on with the right mindset, pacing, and support.
